Hope Commission International in Côte d'Ivoire collaborates with partners to empower families and communities through services like Discipleship, HIV/AIDS support, community development, and health initiatives. Their mission is to foster spiritual growth and individuals to be witnesses for Christ in various settings. Operating for 18 years, the team transitioned from MAP International to Hope Commission International in 2018 and has partnered with numerous NGOs, including UNICEF and the American Leprosy Mission, to further their goals.

Our branch in Cote d’Ivoire focuses on controlling and preventing Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), a group of diseases that disproportionately affect poor and marginalized communities. Without timely intervention, NTDs can lead to physical disabilities and increased vulnerability.

What We Do In Cote D'Ivoire/Ivory Coast?

Our work is centered on empowering communities and strengthening health systems through a multi-faceted approach:

  • Health Education and Awareness
We conduct community health education sessions to prevent the spread of NTDs and reduce stigma associated with these diseases.

  • Early Case Detection
We utilize community-based approaches to detect skin diseases and NTDs early, enabling timely treatment and reducing long-term impact.

  • Health System Strengthening
By enhancing the capacity of local health systems, we improve the diagnosis and treatment of NTDs, ensuring quality care for affected individuals.

  • Social and Economic Inclusion
We promote stigma reduction and empower those affected by NTDs through mental health support, advocacy, and income-generating activities (IGAs).

Our Impact

We are making a lasting difference in the lives of thousands. Every year, we:

  • Reach approximately 10,000 people through community-based interventions

  • Detect around 1,500 skin diseases, including 300 NTD cases

  • Empower individuals by building self-confidence and fostering mental resilience

  • Strengthen relationships with local health authorities and community organizations to ensure long-term impact

Challenges We Face

Despite our successes, we encounter several challenges that impact our ability to scale our efforts:

  • Limited Resources
Financial and human resources are often insufficient to meet the growing needs of our target communities.

  • Cultural Barriers
Deeply rooted social beliefs and practices make it difficult to promote behavioral change.

  • Lack of Local Ownership
Local organizations, including churches and community groups, need to take greater ownership to ensure sustainability.

Our Vision for Sustainability

We believe that sustainable change requires local ownership, continuous capacity building, and community engagement. To ensure long-term impact, we are focusing on:

  • Diversifying Funding Sources
Engaging international donors, government agencies, and private sector partners

  • Strengthening Local Partnerships
Empowering local organizations and churches to take ownership of NTD prevention and care

  • Promoting Behavioral Change
Developing culturally sensitive messages to challenge misconceptions and encourage health-seeking behavior
